Summer is basically in full swing and my favorite conventions in California are popping up. And boy I can’t WAIT to go.

Except I can’t due to health reasons and budget constraints.

So much for AnimeExpo then…

In any case, I’d like to talk about my favorite Cosplayers. I’ve met some personally during the convention circuits in Los Angeles over the years and some who I’ve somewhat interacted with online from time to time.

They are in no special order as the first cosplayer on this list is just as important as the last person on this list. Some of them you’ve already known and are very popular in the cosplay community – and some that aren’t that well-known, but have a decent following.

Jessica Nigri:

This lovely lady is one of the most well-known cosplayers, as well as a professional “cosplay model” that has a very loyal fanbase.  Most, if not all, of the costumes she wears she makes herself.   A jet-setting cosplayer that travels the globe to some big conventions across the planet, she has a very perky personality.   She likes running, hiking, gaming (on and offline, consoles, etc), reading comics/manga, etc.   I can also attest that she has a derpy side that’s hilarious to watch via her YouTube videos.

She’s usually found at gamer/anime booths, and/or the floor of the convention making the rounds and greeting guests.  A very personable woman, always ready with a laugh or smile on the convention floors.

Yaya Han:

This creative woman, I believe, was one of the first few to actually turn her cosplaying hobby into a blooming business.  She does all of her cosplay designs, be they super elaborate, or super simple.  The meticulous details she places in her cosplays are a marvel to look at as you’d KNOW that they sometimes even go beyond-Hollywood level in terms of production value.   She’s a staple to most of the conventions I used to go to when I was still living in Los Angeles.

I believe she’s also one of the few to originally introduce and popularize Worbla – a type of thermoplastic “paper” that’s very maleable when worked on with heat to form different shapes/molds.  Basically a cosplayer’s first choice for mock-armor that can be “dressed” to look like the real thing yet not weigh like the real thing – and that includes props too.
.
She has her own clothing line based on her cosplays as well.

Soni Aralynn:

This latina is one of the few that I only saw once in person, but her personality is something you can’t forget.  I believe she’s also one of the rare cosplayers that is just a geek as I am about Power Rangers.  I remember her donning a couple of pink and yellow Mighty Morphin’ Power Ranger costumes that time.  She’s also one of the few that I knew of to don a Star Saphire cosplay.

Amber Arden:

I met this lady for the first time at Stan Lee’s Comikaze (Stan Lee’s Comicon) last year and her style of making most of her cosplay feel “retro” is astounding!

She’s VERY immaginative when it comes to her cosplays and cross-plays (wherein she takes one genre of a costume and mixes it with another).  The picture above of Snow White mashed with Bobba Fett to make it Snowba-Fett is an absolute delight – and probably one of the most unique cosplays I’ve seen thus far.

Robert Franzese:

AKA Real Life Peter Griffin, this dude brings Seth McFarlane’s iconic Family Guy character to LIFE!
.
I think his popularity started in 2014 at the New York Comic Con when he went in full Peter Griffin regalia – VOICE INCLUDED.  He’s one of the few in this list that I wished I could meet.

The guy NAILED it!

Pinklunatik:

This young lass is one hell of a talented cosplayer that’s just as creative with her cosplays as one could get.  She even does gender-bend some of her cosplays.  Like her take on the Hulk, which is definitely good and hilarious for one – in fact, a lot of people originally mistook her as She-Hulk:

A long time Clippers fan, this California native can be seen spectating on most of their games in their home turf as well as doing her rounds in the cosplay and convention circuit – AnimeExpo being one of the big ones this year.  And she’s also something of an internet celeb.   She’s been a guest in some geek-centred videos from animation, cartoons, etc.  And also, she’s a riot on her Instagram page.

Vampy Bit Me:

Image may contain: 1 person
Vampy Bit Me, aka Linda Le, is another famous long time cosplayer/model and internet celebrity that makes the rounds on convention centers the world over.  Like many others in this list, she makes most of her costumes herself.  Her Gundam Unicorn cosplay pictured above is one of my favorites.
.
A very personable and sociable woman, it’s hard to miss her on the floor as she goes around greeting convention guests in and out of booths she frequents.

Rosy Duran:

This fiesty lady proves that you’re NEVER too old for cosplay.  She lives in Mexico City, Mexico and what drew my attention to her was how she NAILED Granny from Looney Tunes.   Yes, THAT Granny that owns Tweety Bird:

She’s also one of the few I may never be able to see personally due to how far she is from any of the cons in LA.
.
Here are a few more of her cosplays, and I must say, they are IMAGINATIVE!

Sadly, she doesn’t have a personal website that I know of, but she can be found here:

La Latina Otaku Cosplay:

Image may contain: 1 person, outdoor and closeup
This latina cosplayer from the New England area isn’t well-known to most of us in the West Coast, but she does have some avid followers.  Her Esmeralda cosplay pictured above is how I imagined how the character would look like in real life.

Abby Dark-Star:

Image may contain: 1 person
An avid Star Trek fan, and fellow geek, this cosplay/model/internet celebrity/gamer is a blast at the cons she goes to – be it as a cosplayer, visitor, or guest.
.
Her cosplay credits start from 2007 and pretty much NAILS whatever cosplay she’s in.  I especially liked her rendition as Counselor Deanna Troi from Star Trek: The Next generation.  I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her a few years back before I left LA.  A very classy lady, she is.

This is another cosplayer I’d really like to meet,  as her personality and fun-loving nature is such a treat!  She’s one of those few down-to-earth people and responds well to most of her followers she interacts with.

A self-professed mermaid (she loves to swim with the tail she’s got), she also does charity work using her cosplays for the Make a Wish Foundation.  Her Beldandy Goddess cosplay pictured above is also one of my favorite anime characters.   It’s not surprising as I can see a little bit of the Goddess in her drive to help people.  She’s another one of the cosplayers I’d like to meet in person one day.

Anna Fath and Lexi Grace:

Image may contain: 1 person, closeup
Talk about being a real-life doppleganger of an animated Queen Elsa from Frozen!  This lovely lady shot to fame when her friends told her about her uncanny resemblance to the Disney Princes (actually Queen).  So much so, that she banked on it and started cosplaying and used that for some good will!   Going to charities, birthday parties along with her sister, Lexie Grace (who also uncannily resembles Anna – Elsa’s sister – who is ALSO Anna Faith’s REAL sister in real life!).

And that’s it for the list!  I know I’ve only got a few here, but I plan to make more of these in the future, showcasing a few that I know and have met as well as ones that I admire and know via their Facebook pages.
.
And for those wanting some proof of me meeting them, here’s a few derpy pictures of my ugly mug taken with them at some of the cons I was able to go to over the years along with some honorable mentions that I will make articles of later:
