The oldest supposed profession in the world gets a new twist for the new millenia: a sex robot brothel.  And it’s coming soon to the UK.

For those who need more info; the alleged “oldest profession” phrase (aka prostitution) was popularized by Rudyard Kipling in his 1888 story about a prostitute that begins with: “Lalun is a member of the most ancient profession in the world.”

And from then on, it’s been often misquoted.

So how does this apply to this article?

Apparently; Lumidolls, a company that opened their first European Robotic Brothel in Barcelona, Spain, has plans for further franchise openings all over the world.  And they are looking for investors for “openings” (pun intended) in the UK market.

James Bond would probably be salivating or be horrified at the news.

The brothel, which offers the services of a variety of sex robots, initially opened in February close to La Rambla in the heart of the Spanish city and had four hyperrealistic human-like dolls for clients.
.
The firm’s website says: “These are totally realistic dolls, both in the movement of their joints to the touch of their skin that will allow you to fulfil all your fantasies.”

It adds: “These sex dolls will make the experience more pleasurable, exciting and erotic.” The brothel charged around £68 for an hour-long session with one of the dolls made out of thermoplastic elastomer which cost in the region of £4,300 to produce.

That pretty much means you can get your kink on to your heart’s content.

But you still gotta wear a condom, though.  At least unless you actually purchase your very own sex doll for just about under $7000 USD from places like RealDolls.

Someone always said that the sex industry (aside from the military) always did have some “groundbreaking” techonological “firsts”.

But really?

This brand new tech is also having some opposition from “professional prostitutes” that say having a robot sex toy still won’t be a good enough substitute for the real thing.

One spokesperson from the company had this to say: “With LumiDolls, customers can perform any of their sexual fantasies they do not dare to do with a woman. This allows them to fulfil their wildest fantasies that maybe with other people they cannot, maybe they have some physical complex that does not allow them to be comfortable with a person, and with a doll it makes them much easier this problem.

I kinda see the point in that, some partners (regardless of profession) do have certain limitations (ie. do’s and don’ts) in regards to their choice of sexual kinks.

Having a sex doll kinda “removes” that.

And to be fair; not many people will openly discuss their sexual preferences in broad daylight SOBER.

I’m not for, or against it though.  I can see some uses for such a thing, some of which can be instructional.  I do recall that some sex dolls have been used for therapeutic purposes before, though it’s not widely advertised. And I can also see that some people are divided in using robots as sex objects, see here.

At the end of the day though; it really is down to one’s own preferences.  It’s nice to have choices regardless of social mores, taboos, etc.  Sex (the act of fornicating, of course) is a fascinating subject as it gets all sorts of reactions that range from outright nervous laughter to stunned/vocal outrage depending on the setting of the discussion.

That’s cleary evidenced by a ton of dick and vagina jokes EVERYWHERE.

So with that thought, I’ll just leave this here:
